An Iran War?

I am going to depart from my usual fair.

I have been watching what is going on in Washington DC with the USG (United States Government). It appears that Bush has had one to many Energy Pills. Bush seems to be feeling his oats are getting larger by the minute.

Bush is appearing to desire to invade Iran. Will this actually take place? I am not sure. Her highness the Lady Clinton has proclaimed that Bush must seek authority from Congress.

Am I missing something or did Lady Hilary forget the Constitution. Under the War Powers Act the President make commit troops for 90 days. At the 90 day mark Congress needs to approve for any longer period, ie 91 days.

This sets an odd position. What would Congress do if Bush says the 2002 "Iraq War Resolution" also applies to Iran. First the good news:

"The president is authorized to use the armed forces of the United States as he determines to be necessary and appropriate in order to (1) defend the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq, and (2) enforce all relevant United Nation Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq."

I do not think that the President will have a legal leg to stand on. There is a limit here on Iraq.

Now the President does have the War Powers Act and can act unilaterally as Commander in Chief of the American Military. Yes, Congress would be upset. Yes, they would pass bills to and the non-binding resolution would happen. However, Congress is unable to do anything of real importance.

The question always comes to day 91.

Here are the day 91 options:
1. Bush tries to claim the Iraq War thing gives him the power. It does not. Congress will take him to the Supreme Court and the Court will tell him to bring home the troops as he has exceeded the 90 days. I expect the President to resist.

2. Also taking place on day 91. Impeachment. If this happens . . . impeachment will happen. Without question. I would expect the House to move quickly and will most likely happen at the first minute of the 91st. There will be a very short time between the charges and the actual trial. There will be a short trial and Bush will be the first President to be removed from office through the impeachment process.

Day 92. Cheney will be sworn into office and ordered to bring home the troops. I would expect that there will be an argument for new president a new 90 days. If by day 93 then an impeachment against Cheney.

If this happens, I will expect the Congress to move quickly.
This could lead to Polisi in the white house.

I would wonder can this work? Will our government actually work according to the what the writers had wanted?
